How to Use Siri to Control Your Tapo or Kasa Smart Devices?

With the Shortcuts App in iOS 12 or above, you can use Siri to control your Tapo/Kasa smart devices — all with just a tap or by asking Siri. Creating a new, custom shortcut using the Shortcuts app for iPhone or iPad is easy. This article takes Tapo as an example to introduce how to implement this feature.

Before You Start:

  • Ensure your Tapo device is set up successfully and can connect to the internet.
  • Give each of your devices a unique and easy-to-remember name.

Step 1: Create a Shortcut on the iOS device.

Open the Shortcuts App on your iPhone or iPad, then add a new shortcut.

Step 2: Rename the Shortcut.

Set a distinct and clear name. E.g. Light On.

Note: Avoid taking words that can be easily confused as this may be difficult or impossible for Siri to recognize.

Step 3: Click “Add Action” and then search for "Tapo".

Step 4: Select an Action you want this device to perform

E.g. Turn on/off a device.

Step 5: Select a Tapo device.

E.g. P125M.

Step 6: Click "Done". A shortcut is now ready!

Activate the shortcut, and test whether it is functioning.

Now you can enjoy using Siri to control the Tapo device.
