You might want to look at IFTTT as it's got pretty good coverage.

The down side of using a cloud with your devices (including manufacture clouds like TP Link or IFTTT) is you're giving up privacy and you're delegating control to them.

My app, AutomationManager, can run as a local server that integrates and automates a number of device types (tp link, wemo, lifx, phillips hue, etc) so that your home automation is kept *inside* your home.  Though you can also use it to integrate with devices that can only be managed via IFTTT or other cloud services.
