Hello,

This feedback is regarding Kasa plug models HS103, HS105, KP400, KP401 and others.

Would it be possible to add support for specifying the default power on-state after power failure?

Currently, the plugs turn on by default after power failure, but this is often undesired or dangerous behavior.

For example, if the plug is powering a fan, air purifier or other appliance, having them start back up when power is restored could damage the appliances.

It also creates undue startup load on the system during restoration efforts.  During storms, power can sometimes be restored multiple times in a short time, which is very bad for a lot of devices.

This is a feature offered by competing products and is a good safety feature to have.

  @SJC8993

Thank you for your feedback. I will forward this feature request and description of the use cases to the related department for evaluation.

It is true that occurrences such as frequent power outages, lightning, storms, and similar events can pose a significant risk of damaging electronic devices. However, whether it is a sudden power loss, sudden power restoration, or lightning strikes during normal power supply, these situations can all potentially cause harm to electrical appliances as long as they are still connected to the power circuit.

If your environment frequently experiences such issues, it is important to consider installing surge protectors to ensure the safety of the entire electrical circuit. Surge protectors are designed to protect against voltage surges and transient spikes, helping to minimize the risk of damage to connected electronic equipment.
