Tapo devices losing local (LAN) connection when internet (WAN) unavailable
I have 20 Tapo smart plugs and several Tapo smart buttons controlling them in addition to some door sensors and PIRs (all Tapo). I also have a Tapo doorbell and several Tapo cameras.
Today I was disappointed to discover that when an EXTERNAL ISP issue caused an internet (WAN) outage, even though my local LAN was unaffected I still lost ALL LOCAL CONTROL of my Tapo devices. Physical presses of smart buttons or triggers from door sensors/PIRs were all disabled. Everything showed as offline in the app too (this I could understand and accept but surely my smart buttons should still respond?
My home WIFI is also TP Link (Deco X50s) with dedicated WAN port setting on main Deco so the loss of the WAN connection should not impact my local controls via my LAN and hence my smart buttons ability to control my smart plugs. Unfortunately this was not the case and everything from my doorbell to my bedside lamps went offline just because the internet was not available due to an ISP fault.
I do not understand why local home automations and control are not sustained regardless of internet connectivity. Please help me resolve this issue so that it does not happen again.
There is no point in having a doorbell that is prevented from ringing the chime 10m away in my kitchen just because I have no internet connection. I know my LAN was resilient to the WAN outage because my Tapo cameras connected to my TP Link (Vigi) NVR remained connected for local viewing.
Surely it is not correct that every Tapo device is rendered completely useless and cannot even be controlled locally within the LAN every time there is an WAN internet issue?
I look forward to your help and support in finding a suitable solution.
