Model: Tapo T100
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.12.0 Build 230512 Rel. 103011

Hello,

Strangely I can't find a way to disable a T100 sensor (motion detection sensor). I have several T100 sensors in my home that I only want to use when I'm not home (to warn me about possible robbery).

I know it's possible to disable the notifications, but that's not what I want. I want to disable the sensor itself so that it stops wasting battery to detect movements constantly when I don't need it. Using smart actions I see it's possible to disable notifications, but there's no way to disable the sensor itself. I have wasted a long time already trying to find this functionality.I can't believe disabling temporarily a sensor to save battery is not possible, it seems so awkward.

Does anyone have a solution which doesn't consist in putting the plastic protection back over the battery ?

Thanks !

The sensor cannot be powered off via software. If you need to deactivate it, physically disconnect the battery -- remove the battery or re-insert the battery pull tab.

Button batteries actually have quite a long lifespan. Based on our lab tests, the sensor’s battery can last up to two years with 50 daily triggers (25,000 total activations).

To users with the same request or question regarding temporarily disabling Tapo T100 motion sensor: To help us prioritize and shape this potential feature, please visit and engage with the existing feature request thread: Request Ability to disable the PIR to a schedule to Extend Battery Life

  • Upvote the post to indicate your interest.

  • Commenting to share details about your use case, including:
  1. Why you wish to temporarily disable the sensor.
  2. Where the sensor is installed and the activity level in that area (e.g., “high-traffic hallway,” “occasional activity at night”).
  3. Any other relevant context about your usage pattern.

The more context you provide, the better our product team can understand your needs and evaluate this feature for development.

For those primarily interested in extending battery life:

While sensor batteries are designed for long-term use—supporting up to two years or 25,000 activations under typical conditions (approx. 50 triggers per day), you can further optimize battery performance with the following adjustments:

  1. Lower the motion sensitivity.
  2. Increase the detection interval.
  3. Adjust the sensor’s position or angle to reduce unnecessary triggers while maintaining coverage.
  4. As a temporary manual solution, physically cover the sensor or remove the battery (or reinsert the battery isolation tab) to disable it.

If these suggestions do not fit your situation, please let us know why (by commenting on the feature request post above). This feedback is valuable for understanding user constraints.

  @Ouno

I do faced same problem. I purchased Tapo T100 and installed in my living room. Its battery got drained by three weeks.

Sensitive set to High

Sensing frequency set to 4 sec

With this setting it drained in three weeks

Could you provide an estimate of your sensor’s average daily triggers? If an exact count isn’t available, a general idea of the environment—such as “high-traffic area with people passing every few minutes”—would also be useful.

If there is indeed a lot of activity in its current location, you might consider moving the sensor or adjusting its angle. Is there a particular reason it needs to stay in its current spot?
