Recently purchased AV1200 (PA8030P-KIT) on Amazon. On a 1GB fiber to the home connection I only get about 150Mbps throughput with these adapters ( I do get 950Mbps via direct connection between my laptop and router). I still need to verify which version firmware they have (currently at work). The EU website has v2 firmware available while the US site only has v1. If I find that they only have v1 firmware, is there any issue with upgrading to the v2 firmware found on the EU site?

V1 and V2 are different versions of the hardware, and either needs their specific firmware.
The latest firmware release for V1 is ancient and also not exactly good. While there has been a beta recently, it was still lacking, and unlike on V2, it hasn't been released either.
So my advice is to check really quick whether you got V2 hardware, and if not, do a return. The V2 in turn, with their latest firmware from July this year, have been as flawless as it gets.

Thanks... could not perform the update as it kept failing. Since I purchased through Amazon, I am returning these. The low throughput left me being very pessimistic about any powerline adapter working as advertised.

Powerline adaptors will not let you change region firmware for most updates via the tpPLC link utility. If you really want to do that then it should be possible via the recovery utility posted by me on these forums. Different regional firmware may cause interference to amateur radio and similar so it's not a recommended route.
However 150mbps actual transfer rate is about right for these adaptors. SmallNetbuilder's tests recorded a maximum of 160mbps and that's one of the fastest they tested.
If you contact TP-Link support they should be able to get more recent firmware on the US site if there is one...

In my house, line rate hovers at around 400 mbits with AV1200 everything. I do have a much better setup though, with the central PLC feed being a 3-phase unit right there in the fusebox, a Devolo DINrail 1200 PLC. That improved e.g. the upstairs study by a factor of ten.

Note that the physical link speed on the tpPLC utility is always way higher than the actual line data transfer rate...This is normal for Powerline. The maximum actual transfer rate of those devices is about 160mbits as per SmallNetBuilder...

That is true - it is a shared media network, so just like with WLAN, you can expect payload throughput to be about 1/2 to 1/3 the physical media bandwidth. tpPLC utility shows the latter.
8030P V1 with original firmware barely make it to 1/10. This is far from normal.
