I have new gigabit service with nighthawk 6 router. In the room across from the router I have my iMac which I use as a Plex server both at home and remotely. It is also my work computer which transfers a lot of files and also handles backup/restore functionality to the cloud with 1.5 terabytes of data. Im getting about 260/280 mbps on 5g wifi now now, but if I use this ethernet adapter will that increase the speeds for what im doing or not really?

i don't think so. AV2000 is the phy speed. so in the autual internet browsing, it is only 30-40% of that speed. what's more, there could be powerline interference which may lower down the PHY speed

Give it a try - both WLAN and PLC are shared-media networks, where actual payload throughput typically ends up being about 1/3 of physical media bandwidth. Of course, poor mains wiring may ruin the fun in PLC - just like thick walls and concrete floors ruin the fun in WLAN.
