On my xfinity account I found that both the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz signals needed to carry the same name and password. After changing the names to match, the 5GHz connected as well.
The extender should have no issue connecting to the 5GHz regardless of the network name. Pretty odd, but having the names the same should be fine. Some of our extenders do that automatically once set up with WPS.
