Model: RE650
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a RE650 operating in high speed mode with our Netgear R7800 router where I use the 5G band to communicate between router and extender and extender is broadcasting 2.4.   The 5G channel width is set to 80Mhz and selecting channels 36-48 U-NII-1 works fine with the extender but if we try channels 149-165 U-NII-3 the extender does not appear to see the signal and the main indicator light (big circle) at the front turns off.  Other 5G clients connect with the router on U-NII-3 channels without issues so I'm a little lost as to why the RE650 extender does not.  I would prefer to use U-NII-3 as I have a neighbor using U-NII-1.

@Tailspin

When the channel is changed on the Netgear router is the extender disconnected and reconnected back to the network?

For example, loging into the RE650 over the web browser, go to Settings > Wireless > Connect to Network.

I don't recall what the tplinkrepeater.net page was displaying, but when we change channels from 36 to 40 for example the extender would automatically pick up the new channel. When we tried channels in the 149-165 range the extender appears to disconnect from the network and not re-connect. When we switch it back to 36 the extender picks up the signal right away. I'll have a look at the extender status next time we try it. From google search I can see a post in TP-Link community that seems to be a similar issue for the RE450 but when I follow the link I'm not able to locate that post. RE450 Doesn't See 5GHz SSID - TP-Link Community https://forum.tp-link.com › showthread › 86313-RE450-Doesn-t-See-5GHz-... Mar 1, 2016 - Woud be nice to have that second channel extended too. ... I successfully hooked up the RE450 range extender to the existing 2.4GHz channel on our Fios Quantum Gateway ... Channel 149, 153, 157, 161 all failed to work.

3 digit channels for 5g not supported on your tp-link. In some countries it is prohibited. I think that to avoid issues the developers turned them off :-)

@Tailspin I have the same problem.  Band Ch 157 does not work on the RE650.  This is a channel that the modem/router auto selects on it's own.  If the extender manages to connect to the cable modem/router on ch157. I am only able to get one device to connect to the extender. All others say they cannot obtain an IP address.

This issue is not resolved. I wish this would be forwarded to the developers.
