Model: RE650
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.6 Build 20171228 Ref. 42160

Extender worked perfectly for 18 months.  Only problem I had was a few times after a power outage I would have to redo the 5 GHz settings where as the 2.4 would automatically restore.  The PROBLEM I am having NOW is the 5 GHz randomly looses host (5GHz light goes out on range extender and app states  I need to reslect host.  Reselecting does not work even though the Router settings have not changed and the 5 GHz is still being broadcast from router).

For the first 18 months I had my router set to "automatic" for the channel - this TP-Link Extender no longer sees 5 Ghz at this setting.  If I change it to 36 or 40 or 44 it will instantly work perfectly for 2 to 3 days and then randomly dissappear again, changing the channel to 36, 40, or 44 instatnly fixes this, but only temporraily.

Our router is an Apple Airport.   The 2.4 GHz network is totally stable and always works.  Please help stabalize our 5 Ghz.  TIA!!

@AcuDoc

The 5G may be too far for the RE650. Move the extender to the same room of the router to see if both lights remain stable. If so, then you need to move the extender closer then to where it was.

@Tony

I appreciate the suggestion but the extender is not very far from the router, the app states the locaion is good and even suggests I move futrhter away if I wish to further extend my range, the signal (both 5 & 2.4) are strong, and it has been in the same location for 2 years.  Nothing has changed other than frequent drops over the past 6 months.

Look at updating the firmware, since you are running the 2017 build, later revisions mention fixing connection issues. Although nothing has changes it might be worth doing in this instance.
