Firmware Version: 4.0.4 Build 20200313 Rel.41831

I am trying to set up a static route between two subnets, each separately on a router plugged into a lan port on  R600.The R600 is on subnet x.x.0.0/24, and I have assigned reserved IPs for each of my routers attached to lan ports: x.x.0.100 for router  with internal subnet x.x.1.0/24; x.x.0.400 for router with subnet x.x.4.0/24.

 

Somewhat pictorially

I've tried several route combinations, but most don't work (via pings). What I can do:

  •  ping from x.x.1.0/24 to x.x.0.1, x.x.0.400, x.x.4.1
  •   ping from x.x.4.0/24 to x.x.0.1,  x.x.0.100 but not x.x.1.1  like above.

 

 

FWIW: router on subnet x.x.1.0 is a new Netgear Nighthawk w/ up-to-date stock firmware. The router on subnet x.x.4.1 is an older Netgear router w/ OpenWRT installed.

 

Any help greatly appreciated.

Okay, haven't heard anything back yet. But I did some experimenting. I connected wireshark to a mirroring port on the r600. I am testing with pings - and I have disabled firewall ping blocking on all routers.  When I send pings from  a host on one router to a host on another the other, I see icmp requests, but no icmp replies. I do see icmp redirects from the r600 (ip 192.168.0.1) to the lan port connected to the destination router (192.168.0.xxx).

 

When I have the static routes  to each other's  lan (192.168.1.0/24 <---->102.168.2.0/24), I stil see no replies, but do see more redirects to the other r600 lan address (192.168.0.x). On the firewall, I have all traffic on the lan, along with all ports, allowed.

 

It looks like the firewall is  allowing inbound lan traffic, but blocking outbound lan traffic. But I can't see how, or what, to change to fix this.

 

Please help.
