Hi!

 

The Problem:

When a smart home device is near the router, it connects on the 5GHz band instead of a 2.4GHz band. 

 

There should be an option to change what band a device is connected on, that way the band that is needed doesn't get clogged up.

If I am correct in the way that the technology works, your device will connect to whatever network will provide the best connection at that time. You also have to remember how much more bandwidth is available on the 5Ghz network, as it can handle a much higher load. Furthermore, not all devices that are connected to a network send data at the same time.

 

If you want to configure what network your device is connecting to you will have to disable the smart connect function on the router, which will separate your networks into a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz network.

 

Otherwise, I have seen a lot of our users set up their smart devices on the designated 2.4Ghz network, as this is separate from the Smart Connect Enabled Network. This is also a great method of setting up smart home devices that are trying to connect to the 5Ghz network, even though it may not be compatible
