Please provide the model of your Samsung Router, as you may have better options specifically available to your router. If you are using a Samsung router that offers mesh capability, you will have the absolute best experience purchasing a node or extender compatible with their mesh system. My parent's house uses a Samsung smartthings mesh network so I have a little knowledge of the platform. If you are using the home pass app to manage your router, check to see what options are offered in the app to extend your network as they may provide their own mesh nodes.
Now Onto the RE:
While you did not provide a model in your post, Range Extenders are meant to be compatible with any wi-fi network and only serve to repeat the signals that are already being broadcasted. It is only some of the features of the RE that are limited by your router choice, such as TP-Link proprietary Onemesh. Since you do not have a OneMesh-compatible router, you will not be able to create a mesh network with the RE and the device will need to operate as a conventional range extender. Saying that the network from the RE can have the same name as your main network so that you will be able to transition fluidly between the router and extender.
Due to the nature of REs, there is a falloff in overall bandwidth when connected to the RE. If you can, setting up an RE as an Access Point(if supported by your RE) will not suffer the same fate. The problem is that an Access Point, or using an RE in AP mode, requires a wired connection to the main network.
