Model: RE315
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I'm setting up a 2nd TP-Link RE315 range extender in my house. During the setup process, it tries to give the name of this 2nd device the same name as the first device.

The name of the 1st device is NETGEAR27-5G-EXT. It wants to give that same name to the 2nd device.

It seems to me the two devices should have different names.

Any advice?

Thanks.

  @j99lemmon,

Most likely, you are correct, and you want them to be separate networks that your phone will switch between. Your second range extender was simply extending your main Wi-Fi(as it should). so it never saw your Range Extender on the network - which means it simply chose its default network name again.

You are, however, beginning to see the advantages of EasyMesh or other Mesh technologies, as it allows for one coherent network.
