Model: EP10
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: US/1.6

I bought a 2 pack of EP10's to add to my current 6 Smart Plugs. Kasa can't set it up and asked me to go into my Android settings->Wi-Fi and connect to the TP-LINK_SmartPlug. My Android won't connect to it. I keeps saying "Connection Failure". I tried both of the new smart plugs with the same results. I did a hardware reset on both plugs and that did nothing to fix the issue.

So I took one of my working plugs (HS103) and did a hardware reset. Then I tried to set it up again. Same failure in the Kasa App and in Android settings I cannot connect to it either. It gives the same error "Connection Failure". So since my S22 just updated to Android 15 and One UI 7.0 I thought it might be an Android version issue. So I installed Kasa on my iPad and tried to setup the smart plugs one at a time and each time I get the error 'Unable to join the network "TP-LINK_SmartPlug"'

So both of the new plugs and one of my previously working plugs can't be set up. I have scoured the net for solutions but still haven't been able to resolve this issue.

Android specs: Samsung S22, One UI 7.0, Android version 15, Knox Version 3.11, Android security patch level June 1, 2025

iPad specs: iPad (9th generation), iPadOS version 18.5

I know that some mobile devices may refuse to join a WiFi network that with no internet access. It's hard to tell which Android device has this problem as there are too many brands and models, but i think the iPad should not have such an issue. When you're using the iPad, if you receive the prompt like"This wifi does not appear to be connected to the internet, do you want to use data?", make sure to select 'keep trying WiFi'. If the connection succeeds, you can return to the app to complete the configuration.

Other things you can try:

1. Factory reset the smart plug and try again. *How to reset EP10: press and hold the power button for 10s.

2. Restart your phone.

3. Delete and reinstall the Kasa app.

If the problem still exists, then you will need to find one more phone or iPad to do the configuration -- a device that can join a no-internet wifi without any problem.

@Wayne-TP Yep. Tried all those on 2 Androids and 1 iPad. The plugs don't seem to keep transmitting their WiFi long enough to connect to. The Kasa plug appears only briefly and then seems to stop transmitting for a minute.

Do you mean the WiFi signal will disappear from the list? I recommend testing by removing this WiFi from the saved networks, then turning off and on the WiFi to see if the smart plug's WiFi still disappears. I suspect that the WiFi disappearance you observed is likely due to the plug failing to connect, which is a common occurrence in such cases, rather than an issue with the plug itself. How to remove existing wireless network profile on Android&iPhone

I can't remove it from the saved networks list because it is never listed in that list on all 2 Androids and 1 iPad. Apparrently it never stays visible long enough to connect to. Watching with a WiFi scanner appears and disappears several times in 2 minutes from startup and then disappears until I unpower and power up again. Scanning with one device and connecting with another will make it instantly disappear until reboot. From an IP perspective, this behavior makes me suspect the device itself.

Well, in this case, it does seem like a hardware issue with device's WiFi module. I would recommend checking device's warranty and request for a replacement. You can check and confirm this by contacting the local support team. Contact Technical Support
