Local Range Extenders Shown as "Cloud Device"

Local Range Extenders Shown as "Cloud Device"

Model: RE235BE   RE605X   RE815XE
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.0

Starting with two range extenders that I manage:

RE815XE remotely managed in Range Extender Mode

RE605X locally managed in Access Point Mode

I added a RE235BE to my local network (after a little difficulty I was successful).

Unfortunately right after adding it during loading of the 3 range extenders:

First RE235BE and RE605X show correctly for a brief time Local Device,

As soon as RE815X shows both change to Cloud Device so all 3 are Cloud Device.

Yesterday after setting up it was okay as I could still access the RE235BE configuration, but today it fails with a message:

"Make sure you are connected to the right Wi-Fi network, move closer to your device and then try again. If you're still having problems, try resetting the device."

                                                                                                                 OK

All are fully updated to the latest firmware, I believe the other two are also HW Version 1.6, but not 100%.

@Carl  Please help.

The work around is to access the configuration while away, or VPN out and then do so...

Re:Local Range Extenders Shown as "Cloud Device"-Solution

I bumped into the TP-Link 24-hr Tech (I chose Chat) Support.  It gave a list of possible solutions to try, of which the first three I had already tried, (off the top of my head):

Try both Tether App and Web address in various browsers (just in case one browser is buggy).

Make sure Tether App is up to date.

Check for a RE235BE firmware update.

#4 which seems to restore access- Reboot the range extender!

While it is annoying to see the two as Cloud Devices while I am at home/local, I am happily able to configure via the Tether App again...

@jzchen If you log into the with you Tp-Link ID, I am pretty sure that they will show as Cloud devices.

@DVair Thank you for the input!

So I've had the RE815XE running at the in-laws' house, correctly showing Cloud Device, for years.  About a week or so ago I started up the RE605X here at our home (Local), and it was showing Local!  After adding the RE235BE, when I open the Tether app the two local ones pop up almost immediately, showing "Local", then as it is reaching out and the (Cloud) RE815XE, as soon as it populates the list, switch to "Cloud".  (Sorry if I left out "Device" towards the end).  🙁

@jzchen I have a Router and Extender, in the Tether App when I go to change device, which ever one I am not currently on always shows the cloud icon.  I wouldn't  worry about it to much, as long as you can connect to them that is all that matters.

@DVair Thank you for sharing that.  I have one Deco and one RE in the household.  They do not mesh as you probably already know.  Even if they OneMeshed I'd prefer Wired Access Point mode....

I absolutely didn't mind the change until I stopped being able to access the RE235BE on the Tether App.  I just checked after I came home from lunch and still able to, so no big deal.  If I get locked out again I'll VPN out then hit the reboot option...

Is your router and range extender Meshed?
