EP10 catastrophic failures?
My mother and I have been using the EP10 smart outlets around my house for about 2.5 years. They were purchased brand-new off Amazon.
Last July (2025), one I used with a 750-watt space heater began turning off & on rapidly during the "off" part of its schedule; nothing I did would make it stop. I figured it was a side-effect of using the heater, so I bought a new EP10.
A couple of months ago, a different one I was using with a bedside lamp tripped the circuit breaker, again while it was "off". When I turned power back on, if the EP10 was plugged in, no more than 1-2 volts could reach any outlets further down the circuit from it. I obviously 'retired' it.
At 3am today (Dec. 7), another EP10 that was "off" tripped the circuit breaker. When I checked, I found that the back of the smart outlet was slightly melted around one prong; the wall outlet was partly melted on the inside and had to be replaced.
This is really alarming. What is going on?
