7 Ways to Unlock with Unmatched Security
Palm Recognition, Fingerprint Scanning, Passcode, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Voice Control, and Physical Key

DuoBiometrics™ Access with Fingerprint and Palm Vein Recognition
The Tapo Palm Access Smart Lock reads the unique vein pattern inside your hand, something that no photo or 3D model can fake. Even identical twins have different vein patterns, making your palm a key that only you can use.
From aging hands to kids' hands, even when wet, dirty, or sweaty, the lock recognizes any palm.
What is Palm Vein Recognition?
Palm vein recognition uses near-infrared light to scan the unique vein patterns beneath a person’s palm. These patterns are different for everyone, even identical twins, and remain stable throughout your life.
These patterns are stored/encrypted internally on the lock, never uploaded to the cloud, and use a ‘liveness’ detection to make it even more difficult to copy or spoof. Contactless entry also reduces the risk of tampering or of residue leaving evidence of your PIN Code.
Helpful Tip: When setting up Your Door Lock for the first time, have every one of your regular household members add their fingerprints and palm vein scans for both hands, preventing you from having to juggle groceries or remember which hand was used during registration.

Integrated Door Sensor
The Tapo DL130 is our first door lock to feature an integrated door sensor, helping you ensure your door is both closed AND locked without any additional purchase. The sensor is used in a few different features and is also available to Smart Action triggers and conditions. The door sensor also adds affects the auto-lock feature seen on previous locks, and introduces a 'left open' alarm:
- ‘Left Open’ Alarm: Automatically trigger an alarm on your lock and phones whenever the door has been open for a predetermined amount of time.
- Auto Lock – With the door sensor installed, the auto lock function will start its ‘lock timer’ AFTER the door has been closed. Without the sensor, the auto lock function will start its ‘lock timer’ immediately.

Always Powered. Never Locked Out with Built-In Backup Battery
7800mAh Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery + 500mAh Built-in Battery Backup
The DL130 is Tapo’s first device to offer multiple, separate batteries in a single device, ensuring that the door lock stays charged and that your device continues to function even while charging.
When the main battery is removed for charging, a built-in backup cell keeps the lock powered. Once reinstalled, the main battery can even recharge the backup, and the eco-friendly design means no disposable batteries.
Even if both batteries are depleted, all Tapo doorlocks offer an emergency power supply, allowing you to temporarily power the doorlock from outside with a USB-C cable.
Looking to Make Your Battery Last as Long as Possible?
Enable Wi‑Fi Scheduling to automatically turn off Wi‑Fi overnight (you can still control the device locally via a direct Bluetooth connection), or reduce the auto wake-up distance required to trigger palm vein scanning.
Commonly Asked Questions:
How long do Tapo DL130 batteries last?
Tapo DL130 features a dual-battery system. When the main battery pack is removed for charging, it switches to the built-in backup battery for power. Once the main battery is reinstalled after charging, it will automatically recharge the backup battery.
As long as the main battery is charged in time, it can achieve virtually uninterrupted operation, with each full charge lasting over one year. Actual battery life may vary depending on device settings, router specifications, usage patterns, and environmental factors. Battery performance is based on TP-Link laboratory testing.1
Does Tapo DL130 work without Wi-Fi?
YES – having internet should never be a requirement for entering your home!
The DL130 supports a Bluetooth-only mode, which allows you to both set up and use the device without connecting the device to your Wi-Fi, making it suitable for no-network or weak-signal environments.
Even without a wireless connection, you can still use the Palm Vein, Fingerprint, Passcode, Emergency Codes, and the Physical Key to unlock your Door.
How can I use Tapo DL130 together with a Tapo doorbell?
You need to link your Tapo doorbell with Tapo DL130 first. When a visitor arrives, you can directly lock or unlock the door from either the doorbell call interface or the doorbell live view page. If your doorbell is equipped with a chime, it will also ring when a visitor presses the doorbell button on the DL130. These options can be found under the 'Paired Chimes' menu option
Does the DL130 Come with a separate chime?
No, a separate chime is not provided with any of our door locks due to the door lock’s doorbell speaker being on the inside of your home.
