Creating an Ethernet Backhaul for Two EasyMesh Routers
Building a robust and efficient EasyMesh network with Ethernet Backhaul is a great way to enhance your home Wi-Fi experience. In this article, we will guide you through the process of setting up an Ethernet Backhaul using two EasyMesh routers.
Please note that the Ethernet Backhaul only works when BOTH your main router and satellite router support EasyMesh Ethernet backhaul. Wired Backhaul Compatability is rolling out separately from the Easymesh update and is only available on some models.
Currently (9/14) the Routers that Support Wired Backhaul are: Archer C59( V4 V4.80) , Archer AX4400(V2.6) , Archer C80(V1 V2.20) , Archer A6(V4) , Archer AX72(V1) , Archer A64(V1) , Archer C6(V4) , Archer A8( V1 V2.20) , Archer C64(V1) , Archer C86(V1) Additional Models are set to receive the feature soon, so please keep an eye out for firmware updates. We cannot provide an ETA on when specific models may receive the update.
Scenario 1: Change From a Wireless to a Wired Backhaul
If both the main router and satellite router are already in an EasyMesh network, and the firmware that supports Ethernet Backhaul has been installed to both the host router and satellite, you may connect one of the main router’s LAN ports to any Ethernet port of the satellite via an Ethernet cable.
Your devices will automatically begin to communicate via the wired backhaul.
Scenario 2: Add a New Satellite Router as a Wireless Satellite
At this point, please don’t configure the satellite router and make sure it has been reset to factory defaults; if it was configured before, reset the satellite router to factory defaults.
Then, connect your main router’s LAN port to the satellite’s LAN port via an Ethernet cable.
Notes:
1. When adding a new router to EasyMesh, please use the satellite router’s LAN port as the backhaul port. After EasyMesh is built, all the ports on the satellite router (WAN, LAN, WAN/LAN) are available for Ethernet backhaul.
2. As long as the Ethernet backhaul is built successfully, the wireless backhaul will disconnect automatically. Similarly, if the Ethernet backhaul is disconnected for some reason, devices will rebuild the mesh network via the wireless backhaul.
How Do I Confirm Whether Ethernet Backhaul Has Taken Effect?
Please login to the web interface of the main router and go to the EasyMesh page. An icon will be displayed indicating the connection type for each satellite device.
Icon | Meaning |
---|---|
(Ethernet Backhaul) An Ethernet Port Icon means it is connected via Ethernet Backhaul. | |
(Wireless Connection) A Wireless Signal Icon Indicates that the devices are still communicating wirelessly. Please ensure that the Ethernet cable is functioning and properly connected to each device. |
