What to try if range extender clients are not getting internet
First, the root cause is that the RE/clients failed to obtain an IP address from the Main router. A static IP and specific DHCP server settings on the extender will sort this out.
Note: If you found that the IP address of the Client is assigned by the RE, do NOT disable the DHCP server on RE; otherwise, the clients won’t be able to get the IP address, and cannot access the web UI anymore.
Not all range extenders have a DHCP Server option.
1. Log in to the router and check the DHCP server settings on Router. For example, below is the DHCP server settings on TP-Link Archer C7.
2. Customize the DHCP server settings on RE. According to the settings on Router, RE’s DHCP server should be set as below.
Note: Please ensure that the static IP assigned for the RE is excluded from the IP Address Pool you set up for it.
