I need to install a vpn client on a router that does wds bridging on the cheap and at $45 the AC900 (archer C900) looks like a promising candidate for ddwrt or openwrt or tomato. But how much flash memory is in it? What cpu is in it and how fast is the cpu?

You can contact TP-LINK email support: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/contact-technical-support#E-mail-Support
But on the website, it says TP-LINK is not obligated to provide any maintenance or support for it , and does not guarantee the performance and stability of third party firmware. Damage to the product as a result of using third party firmware will void the product's warranty.

So I think it's not suggested to install a third party firmware.:)
