Model C2300 Version 1
Firmware Version 2.0.0 Build 20170922 Rel. 32364

I had seen this when checking under performance the CPU use will be maxed out at 99% ( no streaming or heavy usage in network) once I reboot the router it fall back to 8 %. Is this a bug or the CPU is actually running at 99%.
While in this stage I am not experiencing any degradation in performance.

I have run into this probelm as well. Make sure that 'Enable Media Sharing' is turned off under the USB storage device setting. It has something to do with DLNA causing the CPU to go to 100% on these routers and then a reboot is necessary to get back into your FTP server. Also make sure the setting 'USB 3.0 Interference Reduction' is not ticked either under system parameters for the 2.4 GHz section. This way you can continue to use two usb devices 24/7 on this router without the CPU being capped out.

@Tallboy

I know this thread is over a year old, but it led me down the path to resoultion. Hopefully my advice will also help others in this situation.

Problem:

CPU pegged at 99%, reboots do not fix the issue. Internet connectivity slows anywhere from 50% down to 10% of normal performance. The interface is VERY laggy.

Fix:

In my situation I had a USB flash drive connected that was storing pictures from my webcam whenever it detected motion. The USB drive had gotten full and/or corrupt, and as a result the router had a tough time reading it, causing the slowdowns. I simply powered down the router, unplugged the device, waited a minute and started it back up. Everything now runs normally and has been stable for weeks.

Reply/like if this helped you out!

Old thread I know but just wanted to chip in.

I noticed that when the cpu 2 went mega high (high 90s) the connection just went and nothing functioned. Couldn't even do anything in the UI. I read some of the comments here and came to the conclusion that something was increasing the load on the router.

My kids were playing happily with their tablets and all was good. I logged into the Tether app and all of a sudden the cpu usage shot up within 10 seconds. Nothing else had been done. I uninstalled the app and rebooted. All fine again. Later on I turned on my TV which was plugged in via ethernet and the usage went through the roof again. I unplugged it and the usage went down. So there were 2 issues which I've now solved. Hope this help anyone who has this problem again.
