Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

I am in an apartment where the only cable connection is Verizon FiOS via Coax, there is only (1) port in the entire apartment. I am using the Verizon G1100

My wife’s desktop computer has no wireless card, and is too far away for an ethernet connection.

I want to be able to plug in the Archer C7 with only the AC adapter for power and have it wirelessly receive and reproduce the G1100 signal (ethernet WAN connection not feasible). This way, the desktop in the other room can be connected to the C7 by ethernet cable and receive the Verizon 5GHz signal.

I have tried enabling Bridge Mode, selecting my Verizon SSID to clone, and disabling DHCP - it worked as I wanted for roughly an hour but then stopped working, I assume this means some setting automatically renewed and my setup didn’t follow. I would guess that means I want to get a Static IP setup - what confounds me is that it actually worked at first but I haven’t even been able to make it work again for a second.

Let me know if you have any insight beyond what I’ve already found by Googling. I would’ve given up by now but somehow it worked perfectly at first...

Wireless bridging for the Archer C7 is the WDS option.  I assume when you said you put the router in bridge mode you meant this.  WDS is notoriously unreliable and is never really recommended.  This is because both devices have to support it and even then it has to be with in range and maintain a stable signal.  If you are having issues with the WDS setup one thing you can try is putting the verizon gateway in bridge mode and operating it as just a modem.  Set the Archer C7 up as your router and have it configured as such.  In most cases Verizon does not allow their gateways into bridge mode so this might not work for you.  Another option would be Mesh.  you could put a Deco M5 kit for example into AP mode.  Connect one unit to the Verizon device and then set one of the remote units next to your PC and connect it to the PC via ethernet.

@Carl Thanks for the feedback - I don’t want the Verizon Gateway as modem since then I wouldn’t be able to put either device in the computer room.

I also didn’t want to buy a Mesh device (bought Archer C7 and Arris modem for my old Xfinity service 2yr app) but your comment on the signal strength gave me an idea that’s working well now: I set the Verizon gateway to broadcast both 5GHz and 2.4GHz SSIDs, now the 2.4GHz is the committed Bridge network and the 5GHz is used for all my other devices.
