AX11000 Link Aggregation with QNAP NAS
AX11000 Link Aggregation with QNAP NAS
I recently replaced an older Netgear router with the AX11000 and have used link aggreagation with a QNAP NAS for several years. I am unable to detemrine the correct settings in order properly connect the AX11000 and QNAP. I have read the very limited material on the TP-Link website, which is not device specific and tried mulitple settings on the QNAP to enable connectivity to the router. I understand the AX11000 can only handle level 2 (mac) but thats about all I can find. I have used both LACP and Balanced-alb/tlb. LACP settings gets me close but I am getting IP address errors. Is there some documentation or details that explains more about the settings used for Link Aggregation in general on the router or specific for use with QNAP? TIA, Todd

After you enable link aggregation on the TP-Link device you need to go into the QNAP device and configure the link aggregation for balanced xor.

Thank you. Worked!

@Tony ,
Is Balance XOR the only link aggregation method supported on the AX11000? Does the router not support 802.3ad LACP dynamic link aggregation?
From what I've been reading, balance XOR tracks back to MAC address pair, so a single network interface will always communicate through one 1Gbps link. Meaning, a single connection will not have 2 Gbps, but two connections can each benefit from 1 Gbps each.
On the flip side, I believe LACP dynamic link aggregation is able to truly combine the two for a single connection of up to 2 Gbps.
When I try establishing a 802.3ad aggregated connection on my Synology NAS, only Balance XOR is able to establish an aggregated connection. LACP 802.3ad dynamic aggregation fails to establish an aggregated connection.
My Netgear RAX75 was able to establish a 802.3ad LACP dynamic link aggregation connection.

I have the same question. Actually, I got the router today and started out by configuring LACP and just assumed Link aggregation would work. Not only does it not work, if you set it up, no clients will connect over wifi to the router! Disabling Link Agg and rebooting fixes that, but then of course I have no link aggregation to my smart switch.
If this router doesn't support a 2Gbs LAN connection via LACP, I will return it for a refund.

I contacted tech support over chat and they didn't even know what "link aggregation" was, literally. They said they've never heard of it. So, right there, we started out on a bad foot.
I have tried for hours to get link aggregation to work with their own switch, the TG1600G-28 (LACP) and whenever link aggregation is on and 2 cables are present, the wifi of the router will not accept clients, it starts reporting 'inconrect password" to all requests.
It does not seem to work and no one seems to know how to make it work.

I have no idea. The only option for me that I'm willing to use is LACP or static LAG, otherwise I'm sending it back. If the only option is XOR balancing I'll return it. My case has been escalated to senior support that was supposed to answer days ago but still has not. The "regular support team" has never even heard of link aggregation.
The absolute craziest thing is that the moment link aggregation is turned on and I have two cables run between the router and my managed switch the entire Wi-Fi system of the ax1100 completely stops working. It drops all clients and if you try to manually login again the password is not accepted. If you use no passwords every client simply reports that it cannot connect.
I am giving it 4 more days to stay within the 30 day return period with some margin before I just return it. I'm thinking of stopping the use of these consumer grade toys and going to enterprise grade stuff.

The service I want to use is L2. But, as I discussed, the router locks up Wifi when I use it! And others here have reported that it just doesn't work.
It seems that clear this router does not work as promised for link aggregation. I am even using a TPlink smart-switch and still cannot get it to work.
So, unless "senior support" can fix it in a few days, I'm returning it.

I had the same problem. Drove me crazy then I stopped using link aggregation and it everything started working. I'm hoping a firmware upgrade or something can fix it. Link aggregation isn't a "new" terchnology. I've had it on routers for years and only had to ever just turn it on. Hopefully there is a fix.
