Model: Archer AX3000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 20200109 rel.37084(5553)

I am trying to set up the security on the wireless part of the Archer AX3000 router.

What I want to do is this:

1.  Limit devices that can connect by MAC address via Whitelist

2.  Set up IP Address reservations in DHCP so that a specific device gets a specific IP address for my specific network (ex: 192.168.0.x)

3.  Setup  DHCP so that it gives out addresses that are on a different network I am using (ex: 192.168.3.x) so that if a device that does not have a reservation does connect, then it will be assigned an address that is not on the same network and therefore will not be able to access any of the other machines on the network.

For example if my ISP router is 192.168.1.1 and my network is 192.168.0.1, then set the DHCP pool to the 192.168.3.x (where x is 1-253) block and a default gateway that is 192.168.3.254

The questions that I have are:

1.  Is there any reason to or not to also use the IP-to-Mac binding to bind the IP Address that is reserved for a specific MAC address in the DHCP reservation to a MAC address

2.  Are there any issues with what I am thinking about doing?

Thanks,

Eric

@EricBr

1. Go to Advanced > Security > Access Control

2. Go to Advanced > Network > DHCP Server

3. The router can not do that, but maybe you can enable the Guest network and utilize that?

1. The DHCP reservation should be good enough for a home network. When a client device asks for a new IP it will get the same IP that is reserved for it. The IP/MAC bind is to prevent another device from using an IP reserved for another device.

2. I do not see any.
