Model: Archer C4000
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I am trying to find out if there is a limit on the number of devices that can connect to each band of the wifi on this router.  Also, if there is a limit on the number of static IP reservations that can be entered.  I have a fairly large number of Wifi devices because I have a lot of smart home tech.  Very low-bandwidth devices but they still need an IP.  My previous router has a limit on the number of static reservations and the number of connected clients, so i wanted to check what this routers were.

@RyanC780

The max amount of clients:

2.4GHz: 32
5GHz-1: 32
5GHz-2: 32

The max amount of address reservations is 32.

@Tony

Wow, that is a little surprising.  Thanks for the info and for saving me from a purchase I would have regretted.

@Umair.

Probably because the device is limited to 32 addresses. I personally regret purchasing my AC4000 also but for a different reason. I am on my 2nd one. Both the 1st one that I returned and this second one reboot all the time on its own. I don't recommend buying one.

It is not limited to 32 device addresses. That is for each band (SSID). I think most if not all residential routers are like this? I know for sure Netgear is the same. Of course, if you only have 2.4Ghz devices you can only have 32 connected at a time. Dual band devices can connect to both 2.4 and 5Ghz, so you could have 64 on a dual-band router and 96 on a tri-band router.

@IrvSp

I was going by what Tony said above. His last sentence says the router is limited to 32 addresses. Either way I do not recommend the AC4000.

@Umair.

Because I was able to get an Archer A7 for only $50. Was willing to spend the extra for the AC4000 if I could eliminate my second IoT network and router for all my home automation and IoT devices.  But, since I can't, I just kept it and saved a bunch of money.

Oh, thanks. I almost bought C4000. Not risking the money for C4000, which cost more than 3 times. Now I'm thinking if I should get Archer C9 or Archer A9 as both are priced very similarly to A7.

@ram1220

To say the router is limited to 32 addresses is not correct.

If you want the router to reserve an IP address for a device, you can reserve up to 32 devices. However, there is nothing to stop you from statically assigning a device its own static IP address which will also work.

Like my original post and what @IrvSp pointed out, you can connect up to 32 clients on each band so the max amount of clients you can have connected to the router is 96.

I want to point this out so other people do not get the false impression the C4000 can only connect up to 32 clients.

Tony, Please ask your product team to increase that limit on static IP reservation to 96 in the next firmware update for AC4000 router. It's a very nice router. I purchased it recently.
