Model: Archer AX3000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20200426 rel.65338(5553)

Hi,

I just started my new AX-3000 router last night and did some speed test with my old TP-link router bought more than 5 years ago before switching to the new one.

With 5G wireless on AX-3000, the download and upload speed for connecting to local server seems to be improved from ~30 Mbps and ~80Mps respectively to ~90 Mbps for both upload and download which is close to the level of directly pluggin in LAN.

However when connecting to foreign server, say US, the speed fluctuates a lot and is not better off then my previous antique router.

Speedtest.net results

Old router: Down - 49 Mbps, Up - 95 Mbps, ping: 202ms

LAN in: Down - 62 Mbps, Up - 91 Mbps, ping; 191ms

New router wireless 5G (max signal): Down - 48 Mbps, Up - 6Mbps, ping: 196ms

After firmware update, wireless 5G: Down - 48 Mbps (on average, it managed to hit 73 on the first try but never again in the next 4-5 tries) Up - 18Mbps (on average again, it ranged from 14 to 30)

Anyone know any solution to this? I did all of the router config by selecting "auto-detect", did not adjust anything except changing 5G wifi channel to "auto" - which produced no change in test results

Edit: using 2.4G wireless, the result is at almost the same level for local server except upload reduced to ~80Mps. For foreign US server, result is very similar with 5G (Down - 45 Mbps, Up - 19 Mbps). So this reduce in upload speed issue seems to be across 2.4 and 5G wireless

@P.M.

When you say connecting to a foreign server, what are you doing exactly?

I was having a similar issue.  Download speeds were great over wireless, but upload speeds were limited to 6Mbps.  I later determined that upload speeds were good when I first booted my laptop but were reduced to 6Mbps after my laptop resumed from a 'sleep'.  Last week, my WiFi adapter (Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201) received an automatic update (through Windows Update).  I have not had a problem since.   Now, it resumes from sleep and my WiFi speeds are great again.

Not sure if this has affected anyone else but I'm calling mine fixed.

As a side-note, I should add that I travel between 2 locations (Main home and vacation home).  My other location was experiencing the same 6Mbps upload speeds with an AX router of a different brand.  Both were fixed with the WiFi adapter update so it looks like it didn't have anything to do with the TP-Link router.  Also, I didn't have this problem with my old non-AX router so I'm assuming it was a problem with my WiFi adapter that was only related to AX.
