How do I know what speed extender to purchase
I would like to order a range extender, but am unclear what speed to purchase? How do I determine that?
Like should I purchase the AC1200 or save some money and het the AC750?
Thanks

With OneMesh you will have one network name to connect to where you can walk around and your device will jump to whichever node that is best. With the RE450 you do not have the mesh feature, but with the external antennas should get better coverage compared to the RE220.
For myself, I would prefer the extender with a different SSID rather than the mesh, in that I might have a device that doesn't support roaming (802.11 k/v/r).

What is the model of your router, and what speeds (Mbps) do you generally see from the 2.4G and 5G (if the router is dual band)?
The AC1200 labels are pretty much theoretical ratings or what it can potentially reach, however, real-world speeds are different due to your environment.

@Tony TP-Link Archer A7 is the router I use. It has 13 clients on it.
I'm not sure how to check what speed I'm getting from each of the bands, but running speedtest through a wifi connected device yields 130 dwn, 10.5 up.
In one application I'm trying to extend to a wifi door bell and wifi plug hat loose connection because of the distance from the wifi router,
Thanks

The speed of the extender mainly works off of the speed that is available to it and the nature of the extender being half-duplex. So when connecting to an extender you might see speeds of 60 Mbps.
Theoretical speeds wouldn't really mean much to me since you really would not see them (ex. 867 Mbps or 300 Mbps).
If you are on a budget I would go for the RE220. The RE220 also supports OneMesh if that may interested you (link), but you don't need to make it OneMesh.
I always liked the RE450, it doesn't support OneMesh, but has solid coverage.

I appreciate the education...
One more question and I'll leave you alone.
Other than speed, is there an advantag / disadvantage to using the RE220 (w/ OneMesh) vs RE450 (W/0)?
Thanks!
