When you initially turn on the RE650 it will broadcast a wireless network with no password. It does that so when you connect to it, you can then configure it via browser or using Tether. As you set up the RE650 it will connect to your existing wireless network, you will then configure the name you want for the extender to broadcast. The wireless password will be copied from whatever wireless network you selected to itself which it is now a secured connection.
