Model: Archer AX6000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20200714 rel.18254

Hello all,

The other day my wife's zoom call was interrupted twice seemingly randomly.

The first interruption was very short lived, zoom just reported it as instability which I wrote off as "whatever". The second one however was a complete and total disconnect from the internet which resulted in a "WAN Port is unplugged" screen from the router.

There are two logged events directly related to this. It appears NAT services were randomly restarted?

It appears a couple other similar events were logged but no one experienced them do they went unnoticed.

Edit: There were no power events and the router is connected to a UPS.

Edit 2: Having read a few other posts about this now, the common question seems to be related to power events. I had an old TPlink router of some kind, can't recall, but it had a 12v 5A powersupply vs the AX6000's 12v 4A powersupply. I swapped the two out. Perhaps these were partial brownouts that have been knocking parts offline if the voltage dipped under minor load or just fluctuated. I've had RC Airplane computer recievers be able to brown out and recover faster than a hard shutoff so the concept is atleast viable.

Has anyone any thoughts or success smoothing this out?

Here are the two events, full log available upon request:

Some users have mentioned using an alternative power supply to help with random reboots. If the power supply matches the voltage and is equal or higher with respect to the average that should be fine. You can contact our support team as well if you believe the power supply may be suspect.

@Tony

I ran a 300gb internet stress test on the router today over a 4 hour period after switching the power supplies.  So far no issues. I'll be watching the logs and internet uptime tracking I have running now for any correlations.

Are you able to find out from the engineers the actual power requirements of the AX6000? Not the 4000mah listed on the unit and the original power supply

I have an AC4000 that used to do the same thing. I exchanged it at Microcenter for another one and the replacement did the same thing. The only way I was able to fix it was to set the router to reboot every morning at 7am. Since I started doing that 6 months ago I haven't had any reboots during the day or evening. I think the issue is a firmware problem. But this problem does occur over several different models of TP-Link routers so who knows.

The power requirements would be the sticker label of the router.

What is the alternative power supply used? Model?

@ram1220

I appreciate the suggestion. I had it set to reboot weekly and have since turned that feature off to preserve the logs. It seems to wipe them every reboot on my unit.

If the power supply change doesn't fix it then I'll definitely try that out. I'm trying to keep the changes isolated so we can actually find the fix.

I will of course update you both should I find out more repeatable info.

@Tony

I understand the power requirements are on the sticker but the chances of something needing exactly 4000mah is slim to none. The placarded number is a desire, I'm curious to know the engineers calculated number for my own curiosity.

With that said, I'm on the road for work now but I replaced it with a 12v 5A supply from a previous TPlink product. Maybe a Hawkins brand? It's a brick style adapter like that of a laptop, with a blue light on it vs the AX6000's wall wort style 4A adapter.

I'll see if I can find out about the power requirements.

@tom78552

I have had similar problems with my router. It randomly shuts down internet connectivity and the light on the top goes red. I then have to shut down the router and the modem. Power the modem up and initialize it and then boot up the router and all is fine for a random amount of time. I have bought another router for my parents. Same model and same firmware. Theirs never goes down and runs like a champ.

I had originally blamed the firmware but their router has the same build firmware (ax6000v1_us-up-ver1-1-1-P2[20200714-rel18254]_sign_2020-07-14_17.20.15) as mine does. The power issue is something I have not looked into but I will now. I have the unit set to re-boot every Monday morning at 3am but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I think I will try moving the plug to a different outlet or power strip to see if that will make a difference.

Thanks

Jesse

@JesseG

The failure you are experiencing sounds pretty dramatic. Mine was happening and resolving on it's own in about 1 minute. Look at the log for exact timing. I also didn't notice a light color change.  What's yours showing for a log after the event? Check the log before restarting the router if at all possible.

These aren't exactly high draw devices, changing outlets seems extremely unlikely to resolve any power issues unless your home wiring is incredibly bad, you'd know if it was that bad I bet. I think it draws like 400mah at 120v.

With all that said, I just got home from a work trip. And the router went a full week with no logged issues. All I changed was the power supply and turned off auto reboots to try and preserve any logs.

The next thing I'll try if I get another failure is daily auto reboots as suggested by another on this thread.

As always I'll update here if anything happens

I have the same problem.

When its rebooting, then will delete always the system logs.

Intresting the log time begins the firmware upgrading time. 2020 07...

I use my c5400x adapter, but it still the same. :(
