After switching to access point mode, it looks like the advanced "system parameters" UI section is gone. That contained some knobs that seem applicable to access point mode as well as router mode, such as custom beacon interval. Would love to hear of some work-around to get this back, short of installing OpenWRT.

So the enigneers got back to me and let me know only specific products on an SPF platform will support the system parameters in AP mode. They did say that a work around would be to set the features in Router mode and then switch to AP mode. The settings will be maintained.

I checked with the QA team and that section should still be there, even in AP mode. If you can please let me know what Firmware you are using and a screenshot that the menu is gone. I will need them to test.

Archer A7 v5.0

Here it is running in AP mode, showing the System Tools menu from the left. When running in router mode, there's a "System Parameters" sub-menu (all of this only visible when on the Advanced tab at the top of the page; notably the Basic and Advanced tabs are missing here).
