Is this a Ethernet based Server or NAS or is it a USB storage? If its USB what is the format of the drive?

I have storage error too.
It is USB attached to router. Formatted NTFS.
It works fine in most cases. The only problem I have is with mercurial scm (in case you do not know mercurial scm is something very similar to Git and is also very widely used, in my opinion is more suitable for home usage, than git).
mercurial scm can not write to the router disk (so can not publish changes, i.e. push command does not work):
Here is what happens when trying to push
c:\src>hg push
pushing to \\tplink\G\Hg\src
searching for changes
abort: Access is denied: '\\tplink\G\Hg\src/.hg/journal.dirstate'
