Model: Archer AXE75
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Archer AXE5400(USW)_V1_231115

Hi all,

Since my ASUS RT-AC58U has started to intermittently 'drop' 5GHz (everything look like it's working, just nothing can connect via 5GHz without rebooting), so I decided to get an AXE75.

Got it all set up: hardwired via hub to PC, turned off WiFi, configured to use same SSIDs, added about 30 DHCP reservations and swapped it out... only the WAN port lights up orange and it won't 'talk' to the Internet. All active devices connected to the router... just no internet access, no 'smart' home.

From either a wired connection (50 foot CAT6 cable from Linux PC to router in bedroom) or via WiFi, I can connect to router and even the cable modem... just can't do anything further. Ping from PC or Router diagnostics times out.

I tried replacing the cable between the modem and router, no joy. Plugged the ASUS back in and it works fine, so it's NOT a cable issue.

Tried TP-Link Tether app, no joy - no internet. Tried to configure DDNS - no joy, no internet.

Day 2.

Thought long and hard - after reading a number of articles about TP-Link routers having issues with auto-negotiating port speed, I tried manually setting WAN port to 1000mbps - no joy, still orange, no internet.

Since I can't automatically update firmware without an Internet connection, I downloaded and updated the firmware from Archer AXE5400(USW)_V1_230718 to Archer AXE5400(USW)_V1_231115, no joy... and it wiped out all of my DHCP work.

Tried switching from Router to Access Point... still no joy.

I'd include some screenshots of my router settings, but I'm online with the ASUS, so not an option. I'd have to swap out routers, make the screenshots and swap the routers out again to send.

Please, I'm at my wits end. About to repackage the router and send back to Amazon!

Kurt

To have an internet on your new AXE75 you should copy Asus WAN (internet) port settings to the AXE75 WAN port.

This includes Internet connection type, any username/password, etc.

You might need to clone the MAC address of your Asus or PC to your AXE75 if your ISP uses a MAC address protection - details.

If so far AXE75 still doesn't have internet access, I would suggest the following:

Leave your Asus connected but with wireless radio turned off and configure AXE75 in AP mode (Case 1) until you find out how to configure AXE75 Internet port.

That's very important setting, Asus Automatic equivalent  in TP-Link is Dynamic IP:

c80def0125d24d05bc1a2fa743ed6b98

Most probably, if your ARRIS SB6183 has a LAN IP address 192.168.100.1 it's set in bridge mode or it's a pure modem.

I used the same WAN settings on the AXE75 as I had on the ASUS. I had the ASUS settings open in another browser (on a second 27" monitor) to copy to the AXE75. The only difference is that the ASUS doesn't have any port speed settings - auto-negotiate works.

Spectrum doesn't use MAC address protection. The AXE75 is my four router (with an ARRIS SB6183 modem).

The wireless radio can't be turned off in the ASUS.... only option for the WiFi is to hide it... or change the SSID.

AHA! I was just looking at the ASUS (and took screen shots)... I see one mistake I made - set the WAN IP to Static, when it is Automatic on the ASUS. Somehow in the past, I set the LAN port on the modem to 192.168.100.1, but can't find it in the modem settings anymore. I'll try that change (Static to Auto IP) on the AXE75 tomorrow and see if that fixes the issue... and HOPE the WAN LED turns green.

Thanks for the reply,

Kurt

Thanks! Ended up resetting to factory and starting over. I had done a backup after loading most of my DHCP reservations, so I saved some time there with the restore, then changed the WAN to Dynamic IP and it's up & working. The ASUS dropped 5GHz shortly after my last post and I had to reboot it. So I called it a night and went to bed (2AM). Now, I just need to finish tweaking the AXE75 to my security preferences and do another backup. And figure out how to get my Linux box to talk to the 6GHz... Just built it last year, ASUS MB came with WiFi 6E - one reason I skipped WiFi 6. Again, THANKS for the assistance! Kurt
