Good day,

I just bought a TP-Link TL-SG108 SOHO switch. I'm not sure how "smart" this switch is or if there may be a better solution for

what I'm trying to do. All of the devices that are connected to this switch will be talking to each other. There is also one port

on the switch that is being used as the uplink into my TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro mesh system. My question is how smart this

switch is. If device1 needs to talk to device3 is the switch smart enough that it will send that data packet directly to device3

or will it need to pass the data packet up into the router and then back down again. I apologize I'm not a network IT guy.

Hoping this makes sense!! Is there a switch solution for me that will take care of sending the data packet to device3 without

the packet having to go up to the Deco XE75 Pro mesh system?

Thanks a million!

Tim

The SG108 is not a smart switch at all. It's an unmanaged switch. So, it broadcasts to all ports until the desired destination responds, and it builds a path to that port.

Thanks Carl,

SO does what I am trying to accomplish have  a feature name? What are some TP-Link SOHO switches that will have this "feature"?

Thanks,

An unmanaged switch will meet your needs its just the intial build of the route will be a broadcast.
