tp-link hot spot RE315 setup
Windows 11 desktop with an Ethernet hub. I was required to enter something in field Firmware Version and found VN1 on the device. I am not comfortable that is a valid entry for the field.
Open a DOS CMD window and use: arp -a to see what is connected.
Connect an ethernet cable between hub and the RE315, plug in to power. The port light on the hub lights and blinks. The power light on the RE315 is on solid. All other lights are out.
Repeat the “arp -a” command. Nothing new shows up. Connect a second RE315 with the same results. The ethernet cable was moved somewhere else and it works.
Sometimes the arp -a comment shows address 192.168.1.225, but it will not respond to a ping.
That IP is different from what was found in a google search: 192.168.0.254, which never shows up and does not respond to a ping.
URL tplinkrepeater.net gets me to a web page, but not to the RE315.
What might I do differently?
Edit: After leaving it for a while I used the WPS buttons to automatically set a password. That worked. Then it would show an IP address and allow a log on to configure it. Still believe it should have worked with the Ethernet cable.
