I have a 1gig switch which multiple devices plugged into it. One device that is used often has speeds of up to 1gig while the others do not have those speed capabilities. When I run a speed test on a different device it only gets 100mb rather that 1gig. When I change where each device is plugged into on the switch, it does not change their speeds. All ethernet cables are the same, as well as their keystones. Is this the switch giving faster speeds to the other device as it is used more, or could this be a router setting?

Hard to tell with the info you provided?

  • What device(s) specifically?
  • What cable type used, Cat5, Cat6, Cat 6E, etc.?

From you post I sort of think you only have cables that can handle 100Gb or the device can?

If you can exchange cables, try testing with the cable that goes to the device that gets 1GB to one that does not and is what happens?

The 2 devices that I mainly am wanting to have 1gig speeds are both computers. I am using Cat6 cabling and keystones.

Doesn't matter that they are PC's... what matters is what IS the Ethernet Port on the PC's... and if they are older PC's, they my not be 1Gbps capable.

My PC clearly describes what I have for an Ethernet port:
