I have an Archer AC5400 v1 router with a WD MyBook 3TB USB 3.0 hard drive connected to the USB 3.0 port. The drive is readable when first connected but is not available a day or two later unless I change the status of the drive on the advanced tab. I can make the drive accessible if I change the status from available to not available and the back to available.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When the drive is not available, could you find the drive recognized on the admin page of the router?

The drive is always visible on the admin page. It's also listed on clients connected to the router but not available when you try to access the drive. Clicking on the stature icon on the admin page suspending drive access and then clicking it again to enable drive access temporarily fixes the problem.

I have the same issue with the USB attached HDD. So far only after re-scanning drive it could be accessed again.
