Can I ask Alexa whether or not the outlet / light is already on?

I followed the instructions to install a Smart Wi-Fi Plug Mini, add the Alexa Skill for it, and it worked first try as expected.
I can say "Alexa, turn on light" and "Alexa, turn off light." Is it possible to ask Alexa whether the light is already on or off? I might want to do that if I were in another room.
It would be great if there were a model of this plug where the outlet were on the side instead of the front.
