Only motion events or manually recorded events are saved.

To see recorded clips select the activity tab in the Kasa app which should be on the top right (bell icon). If you do not see anything, tap the devices list (plug icon), then go back to the activity icon.

Thanks for the reply. 
I was afraid that was the case. This is not what I'd expect from a security webcam. 
I don't see the need for maintaining a subscription to view only recorded events. 
hope this will change in the future to make the camera more useful.
