Adding older model smart switches to Apple Homekit
Hello,
I just started using Apple Homekit and am trying to connect my Kasa Switches to the Home App. I bought my switches in November 2022, and they are fully updated.
Are these compatible with Homekit or am I going to have to purchase all new switches for my house? Hardware Version 5.0, Firmware version 1.0.11.

I just found a fairly simple workaround. If your goal is to use Siri to control your switch, you can do so through IFTTT and Apple Shortcuts:
1. Create a New IFTTT Applet for Siri
You will replicate your Kasa action, but use the Siri-friendly trigger instead of the Button widget.
1. Open the IFTTT App and go to the Create tab.
2. Set the Trigger ("If This"):
• Tap Add next to "If This."
• Search for and select the iOS Shortcuts service.
• Select the only trigger: Shortcut automation started.
3. Set the Action ("Then That"):
• Tap Add next to "Then That."
• Search for and select the TP-Link Kasa service.
• Select the Toggle action.
4. Configure and Finish:
• Select the specific Kasa switch or light you want to control.
• Tap Create Action.
• Tap Continue.
• Give your Applet a clear name (e.g., "Siri Kasa Toggle"). Tap Finish.
2. Create the Siri Shortcut
Now you'll use the Apple Shortcuts app to create the custom phrase that triggers the Applet you just made.
1. Open the Shortcuts App on your iPhone.
2. Tap the plus sign (\bm{\text{+}}) in the top right corner to create a New Shortcut.
3. Tap Add Action.
4. Search for IFTTT and tap on the IFTTT icon under the "Apps" section.
5. Select the Trigger Applet action.
6. Tap the blue arrow (\bm{>}) next to "Select an Applet," then tap Choose.
7. Select the Applet you created in Step 1 (e.g., "Siri Kasa Toggle").
3. Name Your Siri Phrase
The name of the Shortcut will be the exact phrase you tell Siri.
1. Tap on Trigger Applet at the very top of the screen to edit the shortcut name.
2. Type the custom phrase you want to say to Siri (e.g., "Flip the lights" or "Kasa On Off").
3. Tap Done.
🎉 To use it:
Just say "Hey Siri, [Your Shortcut Name]" (e.g., "Siri, Flip the lights"), and the Shortcut will run the IFTTT Applet, toggling your Kasa switch!
