Model: Tapo C425
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.25

While testing a Tapo C425, I turned on the Light and watched the counter begin to click down from the 5-minute mark.  While this was counting down, I navigated to another device for a moment, and when I navigated back to the C425, the Light icon was briefly lit, then it prematurely turned off the light on the camera.

I can repeat this problem if after turning on the light, I let my phone screen timeout or turn off the display (or close the case cover).  When I wake the phone up, it'll briefly show the Light icon lit, then turn off the light.  Again, not allowing the light to stay on the full duration.

This should be the expected behavior of a battery-powered camera. The camera will enter sleep mode automatically if it is not being used for a while.

  @Wayne-TP Thank you Wayne.

I understand the intent of turning off the spotlight when the camera isn’t actively viewed, since it helps preserve battery. However, this puts too much emphasis on battery life at the cost of functionality.

For many users, the spotlight might be used as a safety feature. In my case, I needed it to stay on for the full timer duration so I can safely walk through a dark area. Requiring the app to stay open or the phone screen active still consumes power—just on a different device—and prevents me from using multiple cameras as intended.

It would be more flexible if the spotlight stayed on for the set duration, allowing me to decide how to balance battery conservation and functionality. For example, my batteries are often at 100%, and therefore I would like to be able to make full use of the spotlight feature for the set duration.

You mentioned that this was the intended behavior, so instead of a bug with the app or camera, this would be in the category of a feature request.

Thanks again.

Paul.
