The unit was working well before today. Today I told it to vacuum 1 room and it started cleaning the whole house. I stopped it and told it to return to dock. It did not return to dock. I picked it up and put it on the dock. 

 

I turned it off. I turned it on. I tried again - it would not clean 1 room, it started cleaning the whole house again.

 

I did a soft reset of the vacuum. I restarted my phone. I confirmed the vacuum firmware is up to date. I confirmed my app is up to date.

 

I can see the vacuum in the app. The vacuum is connected to my home wifi with a strong signal. I can start and stop the vacuum with the app on my phone. But it will not clean the room I choose - it keeps defaulting to clean the whole house. And it will not return to dock when I press that button in the app. 

 

I have never had any problems with this vacuum. It always works well. I have had this vacuum since April 2025 - it is still under warranty. 

 

What can I do? I've tried everything I can think of. Why will it no longer follow instructions? I thought of uninstalling the app but I don't want to start all over with creating the house map again unless that's the only solution.

 

Please advise.

  @SWMia99 I started having this exact same problem today and tried the same things as you to rectify the issue to no avail. I noticed for some reason it says "initiated by Google Assistant" instead of yesterday when it worked and said "initiated by app". I don't use Google Assistant so that is very odd.

Same.

 

Tried creating a zone and it still wants to clean everywhere.

 

App got an update yesterday. Bug?

I can confirm that I am unable to do spot or room cleaning anymore. Everything defaults to clean everything.

I am having the same issue  -  noticed today, but then again, not remembering exactly when I vacuumed last.

 

App version is 3.16.178 (listed as a "beta" version since I was a beta tester of the original TP-Link/TAPO App ver 2.0 and never removed myself from the beta version).

 

As others have mentioned, date of that version is 12/31/2025...  pretty sure I vacuumed since then, but not 100% - it's been hectic the past week or so.

 

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app - with the same results.   Also cleared data/cache, same results.

 

This also affects the RV20 model, so it's definitely an APP thing and not a vacuum thing.

 

Can not do ZONE specific cleaning nor room selection - everything defaults to WHOLE HOUSE.   Additionally, STOP and RETURN TO DOCK does not function.   The only function working is "PAUSE".  I have to PAUSE the vacuum, then go and manually press the RETURN TO DOCK button on the vacuum to have it return to the dock.

Same. Been working just fine for months and just yesterday it started only doing whole house cleaning no matter what I try, and I have tried everything up to and including removing the battery and performing a factory reset.

I just sent a link to this post to app support - maybe if they see that we are all having the same problem, someone will fix that bug. Has anyone tried letting it clean your whole house to see if that resolves the issue? Maybe the app has somehow reset the unit to when we first bought it?

Just for the support to see - same issue for me, symptoms same as above, unable to clean the room, unable to return

Just got another app update (3.16.184). Appears to fix the issue.

 

Tried using the older app (3.16.178) on a different device and it switches to clean everywhere no matter what rooms i choose.

I received the app update as well this morning.   Haven't tested it yet, but if it fixed the issue for you, I'm sure it will for me as well.

Thanks for the heads-up that the new app is available.
