New H100 — Dropped-out thrice in three days on the low-power network

Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.5.23

I bought this less than one week ago. It's paired with a T310 thermometer/hydrometer and a T100 motion sensor.

Twice in the last three days, it has simply stopped working. I can tell it's the hub failing because the thermometer has gaps in the data it is collecting and the motion detector stops responding.

  • The first time, it dropped-out for about one hour and restored itself
  • The second time, I noticed the temperature data had not been recorded for about three hours. This is when I tested the motion detector, which was not responding too.
  • Actually, it failed a third time, six hours ago, as I just discovered. The Tapo app (iOS) shows it's connected to my Wi-Fi network and operating normally. The problem appears to be inter-device connectivity via TP-Link's proprietary low-power network. The hub and my two sensors are about 12' and 24' from the hub, with a clear line-of-sight. The thermometer is in a refrigerator, but that not the problem since both sensors stop working.

  • The firmware is up-to-date
  • Hard reset, between the first and second occurrences, made no difference

Any ideas, before I return it to Amazon and order another?

I've installed almost 20 TP-Link smart home products in my home over the last 10 years and this is the first time I've had an issue. 😑

There is never a wrong time to do the right thing

  @Dacker,

Apologies for the late response.

Definitely not within the expected behavior of the hub. Overall, the hub's connection between the devices and sensors should be as stable as can be, even being independent of your internet connection.

I would recommend re-pairing the devices to the hub to see if the behavior continues.

I would also recommend getting a 'second opinion' on the reports by adding the sensors to another platform via Matter (if possible). For example pairing the H100 to Home Assistant would allow you to easily see any gaps in reporting and would allow you to see if it is a device or an app-based behavior.
