To give you an accurate answer, could you please confirm the exact camera model you are using? Recording behavior can differ depending on the product type.

1. For SD card recording, as long as an SD card is inserted and both the recording schedule and detection settings are properly configured, the camera will continue recording to the SD card regardless of whether the Tapo app is running. Please note that whether 24/7 recording is supported depends on the camera model and its settings. Some models only support event‑detected recording, meaning they record videos only when motion or events are detected.

2. Similarly, for cloud recording, once you’ve subscribed to Tapo Care, added the camera to your Tapo Care Plan, and enabled detection, the camera will keep recording and uploading clips to the cloud when it detects the motion even if the Tapo app is closed.

3. The video icon on the camera live view page is for manual screen recording only. Manual recording stops when the Tapo app is closed.
