@Goobis
Hi,
Thank you for your detailed feedback.
To help isolate the root cause, I recommend performing a quick comparison test using a different third-party tool:
1. Test with Other ONVIF Clients: Please try accessing your camera’s ONVIF stream using different software. A great free option for testing is ONVIF Device Manager (ODM).
2. Download and install ODM on a computer on the same network. Add your camera using its ONVIF credentials.
3. View the live stream and, if possible, record a short clip within ODM.
Key Question: Does the video in ODM also show the same poor quality, low resolution, and freezing “stop motion” effect? Or does it look clear and smooth?
If the video in ODM is clear and smooth (matching the Tapo app quality), then the problem is likely specific to Unifi Protect’s handling of the stream. In that scenario, the most effective next step would be to contact Ubiquiti’s (Unifi) Support Team. They would be in the best position to help you optimize NVR settings (such as stream profile selection, bitrate, frame rate, and decoding settings) to ensure compatibility with third-party ONVIF cameras.
Best Regards,
