Record Your Clips to an H200 from a Compatible Camera

Record Your Clips From Your Wi-Fi Camera to Your Sub-G H200 Hub

*Please Note that this feature is Currently Under Active Development and May Not Function as Expected. For now, the feature is specifically available to the C425v1; if you have compatible versions, we welcome you to try the feature and provide your feedback below. Otherwise, model and version compatibility will expand with future firmware updates.

We have seen the concern that the footage stored onboard the cameras is at risk of going missing if the device is destroyed or stolen and have been working to build solutions to help you securely store your footage beyond the means of Tapo Care and RTSP.

This is now possible through a recent update to the H200 and C425*, which allows you to record your clips directly to your Hub’s SD Card rather than your camera’s onboard storage.

What are "Accessible Devices"?

“Accessible Devices” are simply devices that can use certain functions of the hub while continuing to operate independently. For example, devices can store footage on the hub or use the hub’s hotspot to connect to the wireless network created by the H200 automatically.

Storage Location (Here, we take an H200 and C425 v1 as an Example)

  1. First, Navigate to Your H200’s Device Page in the Tapo App
  2. Tap  ‘Connected Devices’
  3. Switch from the ‘Paired’ Tab to the ‘Accessible’ Tab
  4. Tap Manage and Choose the Camera You Would Like to Change the Settings For
  5. Tap Storage Location
    1. Tap Hub Storage to Use the H200’s Installed SD Card
    2. Tap Camera Storage to Use the Camera’s Onboard SD Card
*Changing the storage location will not delete the recordings stored in the previous location; new recordings will only be saved to the selected location.
  6. Tap Save

Recording to an H200 with a Compatible Camera

In the latest installment of our Quick Tips series, we’re excited to unveil the H200 Smart Hub’s newest feature allowing you to record activity directly to the H200 hub on the same network

For cameras that do not yet support the feature, do not forget that a few storage options are available, such as Tapo Care, recording to a storage location, or NVR on your network through RTSP / ONVIF.

To choose whether your camera will connect to your H200 via the Hub’s Wireless AP or through your Home Wi-Fi, please see our article:

Just bought it on Amazon (hub one, not the hub-camera bundle) for use with the C425. Thanks!

Seems to no longer be available with C425 V1.2

Any idea / estimate when it will be available?

You're right. The link for a standalone unit has now been replaced with a combo unit. Weird! I'll bet it because folks are buying it for incompatible cameras like I did, the C425 with firmware v1.2., and finding the two units won't connect.  Per a post from yesterday, a firmware update is in the works. Hopefully the firmware update is sooner than later.

Connect C425 Ver. 1.20 to H200 Hub - Smart Home Community

Update: The C425 camera v1.2 Firmware 1.2.22 is now connected to the H200 Hub and files are now set to save videos to the HUB micro SD card, rather than the camera micro SD card.  My problem was I placed both the camera and Hub on my Archer AX4400 router GUEST network (for safety from intrusion). But the Guest network isolates so the two units didn't see each other. I changed the AX4400 router Guest settings to "Guests can see each other". I then needed to reboot the Hub and from the TAPO app ensured that video was now being saved to the HUB (I checked that setting in both camera and hub settings).

Be aware that by setting up in the manner you have, you've just exposed both your camera and your smart home to anyone/anything with access to the guest network.

How this was ever supposed to isolate anything from intrusion has done  the exact opposite of. Unless you have actual knowledge on network security, you can leave it to the vendor... Guest networks are for guests. That is, for least privelige endpoints to access the internet via your network. Though varying from network to network, these networks are also easier to access in order to make it easy for guests to connect. This could ultimately result in you offering anyone within wireless range access to your entire snart hime, and  your security cameras without any (at best minimal required).

If you haven't done so already I would put everythjing back the way it was. If security is a concern, then wireless security cameras shouldn't be 6
