Why can't I turn on my appliance with a smart plug

Product Used: Smart Plug (HS100/HS110/HS105/HS107/HS300)

Appliances that do not automatically turn on when plugged in (TVs, remote controlled fans) can’t be controlled by Smart Plug.

Our Smart Plugs are designed to provide convenient, smart automation features for the modern home, allowing you to easily manage your home electronics and appliances anytime, anywhere. You can easily schedule your coffee maker to turn on or off at specific times, or with a tap on your smartphone, you can easily turn off the lights and other devices in the living room without getting out of bed. Kasa and our partners make your smart home devices work better for you. Use voice control with an Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Microsoft Cortana device. Plus, make your smart home more connected with IFTTT or Nest.

Smart Plugs operate by allowing or preventing the flow of electrical current to the appliance when turned on or off. As a result, some types of appliances may not respond as intended when attempting to control via Smart Plugs. These types of appliances typically do not turn on automatically when plugged into a power outlet. For example: TVs and remote-controlled fans won’t typically turn on and begin operation automatically when plugged in. As a result, Smart Plugs may not be a suitable automation option for these appliances.

When considering a Smart Plug solution, we always recommend considering the type of appliance you want to automate, and whether it automatically turns on and operates when plugged in. We also offer a variety of other smart home solutions, including smart bulbs, smart light switches, smart cloud cameras, and more.
