For reference....https://community.smartthings.com/t/kasa-tp-link-3-way-smart-switch-not-able-to-recognize-status-by-smartthings/171241

Looks like it's still an issue with tp-link. Come on tp-link!

@danddc sorry about that - I tested using my Stove which actually uses a Shelly Relay (and as reported, ity worked fine) so I erred in not specifically trying a Kasa device :(

Apologies for having you go through that extra work for nought.

But in the course of typing above, wanted to check it out - first I just looked at my SmartThings app - I did not initially do a full 'auto-off' automation, however by either a) commanding a Kasa Light Switch on from Alexa or b) turning on manually at the physical switch, the switch state in Smart Things was clearly applied.

So then I did a quick automation

If light switch is 'on'

then switch off light switch; delay this action by x secs

Tested by manually turning on the switch (HS220 Dimmer) and set to auto-off after 30 secs - it worked, no problem

Did not do further automations but did check for device state with HS200 and HS210 Switches and even new KS230M 3-way dimmer - all appeared to show the state in the ST app.

@DEcosse That is very strange. I tried it multiple times with no success. I already had an auto-off timer setup in SmartThings on a Kasa HS210 switch to turn it off after 1 minute. With the SmartThings app closed, I turned on the light via the switch. It was still on after 5 minutes. I then opened the app and went to the devices page and it showed the switch as off. I waited a few minutes and it still showed the switch as off, yet it was still really on. I then clicked on the device, which I could tell forced the app to poll the state of the light, which then showed it was on at that point. 1 minute later the light turned off because of the automated trigger kicked in. So for me, this does not work without refreshing the state of the switch in the SmartThings app.

Without even getting to the automation, just turning my switch physically on or off is reflected in the SmartThings Device Does yours not do same? What firmware are you running? My HS210 is on 1.1.5 HS220s on 1.06 and HS200 on 1.02. And going to the manual check in main settings and selecting firmware updates, it will list if there are any updates you can apply

My SmartThings is 1.7.70.21

@DEcosse No it does not do the same. If I physically push the button on the switch to turn the light on, either while the app is open or before I open the app, the app still shows that switch as off. The only time it will reflect the true state is if I click on the switch device in the app, which I can tell polls from tp-link to get the state or if I swipe down to refresh the current state. The HS210 has firmware 1.02. I went to check for firmware updates in the Kasa app and it said "No Updates Available".

@danddc when you are saying 'the app' here, you mean SmartThings App, right?

That's odd you have no firmware updates showing

Those devices should get pushes directly from the cloud

You could perhaps request a push directly if you message one of the TPLink Staff and give them your MAC Addresses

@DEcosse Yes, I'll probably need to do that. It looks like many other people are experiencing the same issue as I with regard to updating the firmware. I had the Kasa app on an iPhone, so I installed the app on and android and it said the same thing.

Looking at all of the Kasa switches, they all look to be out of date. A couple of them are brand new, and they still have the same outdated firmware as the older ones.

Click on 'Help' in the settings then scroll down to Firmware Update and select that

Note at the very bottom ..

second they must be currently reachable ... if you have devices that have remote control turned off you cannot update them from outside your home.

Now I presume you are in your home since you are testing the physical switches - is the Kasa App (phone!) on same wifi network as your devices?

Maybe that is it

(Aside from that I don't know where to find remote control to turn or off regardless!!!)

and you might also try deleting a device and rediscovering it I find typically that when adding a new TPLink device it immediately informs of a firmware update being available

After looking at all my devices, I'm pretty sure the firmware is hard version specific. Some of mine had the same firmware as you, but were on a lower hardware version. This particular one that is on firmware version 1.0.2 is hardware version 3.0.
