Model: HS210
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I recently purchased the HS210 kit to replace two switches that control exterior garage lights. Upon taking off the old switches I'm not sure what to do. I've tried several combinations with no success, the house is roughly 10 years old and has neutrals in each box. The first switch has a 3 way wire with red, black, ground and neutral. There is only a red and black attached to the old switch, besides the neutral and ground. The second switch has two black wires attached to an old 3 way switch, besides the ground and neutral as well. Basically I have three way switches with only 2 wires at each side. One combo is red/black while the second is black/black. I don't know how these match up with the new hs210 switches as they have spots for two travelers per switch.

Any suggestions?

I got this figured out. Black and white are the travelers and the red, went to the black screw on the smart switch. Guess I just had something crossed. Not used to 3 way switches with white being a traveler and not just connected to the other white neutral wires.

A neutral is never connected to a dumb switch of any kind(Single pole, 3 way, 4 way).

Do you have pictures of both sides of the switches?

It sounds like you have black and white for travelers, a red common/load on one switch, and a black common/load on the other switch.

The two traveler screws will be the same color, leaving the other screw as the common/load.

If your lucky there is a White neutral(wire nutted) in the box.

@B.Will two pictures of the same switch. From reading more today, it might be that the white is being used as a traveler? so possibly the white/black go to the traveler and the red to the black screw on the hs210? was thinking of trying that next. i know these three were on the switch originally because I cut the wires off as they were pushed in not wrapped around the screw. I was unable to pull them off even when depressing the button to release so I just cut them.
