Issues wiring HS220 dimming wi-fi switch

Wiring instructions OK until told to connect Load and Line wires to switch. Identified wall Load and Line wires, but could not find anything identifying which are the corresponding two poles on the switch. And the bolts on the switch fell on the floor before I noted whether the red bolt was on top or bottom.
1. Is the top bolt Line or Load? and what color bolt should be on top?
2. guessed which bolt was Line, connected it, but switch did not work. With voltage tester, determined that both bolts were hot and decided my guess was wrong. Reconnected the other way and the voltage tester indicated that only the top pole was hot. But the switch does not work: it does not turn off or on and no light or wifi indicator shows. Tried pushing the Reset button on switch lower left, but that didn't have any affect. What should I do next?
There is actually a label on the back of the switch. Based on what we show the red screw and load go on top and the line and black screw on the bottom.
